Ritchie Torres is one of the most brilliant, centrist and morally-rooted politicians of our time. If only Kamala had more clearly endorsed many of Ritchie's position, including his one on Israel, she might have done better. Your political analysis, and constant framing of Israel, the NYPD and others as the villain, is a major reason why Democrats lost so significantly.
Zeeshan, when Hamas started this, there were 30,000 Hamas in Gaza. Allegedly, 40,000 have died. What about the argument that only 10,000 were civilians used by Hamas as shields? Has to make some sense doesn’t it? And Hamas is as trustworthy as Trump. And for any Muslim to trust Trump…please. Your best choice is Kamela.
The answer is harsh, but I think it’s a way out at least. I voted for Harris due to overriding concerns of labor, of science and innovation, of housing, and because climate change would kill billions more under a Trump administration than under Harris’ regulatory state.
At the time, I thought these concerns were unconnected to the Gaza conflict. And yet I now realize: The activist left could broaden its appeal to the economically struggling-- stopping instability in the Red Sea would revive Europe-East Asian shipping routes, keeping the soft landing going; ending the war would defuse real estate investors pitching a rebuilt Gaza as their next Monaco to wealthy Israelis. It could broaden its appeal to those concerned about public health--Trump and RFK Jr., being anti-vaxxers, would worsen the spread of polio and other diseases, in the ruins of Gaza and beyond. It could appeal to mainstream Israeli Jews’ need for security without corruption--though, to do this, they’d have to work to revive Labor Zionism as a powerful force to rival Netanyahu and promote a practical peace plan.
